One of our editors Donna Condon gushes about the latest Eloisa James story and the excitment in store for readers!
I’m a huge fan of historical fiction, romance, and fairy-tales, which were my first taste of escapist fiction. Subsequently imagine my joy when I heard that the brilliant Eloisa James was planning to start a series where each standalone novel was a Regency reimagining of a classic fairy-tale – talk about heaven!
So far, we’ve been swept away by A Kiss at Midnight (‘Cinderella’), When Beauty Tamed the Beast (you got it: ‘Beauty and the Beast’!), and The Duke is Mine (‘The Princess and the Pea’: an inspired choice).
Now we’re in for our next treat with The Ugly Duchess, a wonderful spin on ‘The Ugly Duckling’. Of course, this being Eloisa James we can expect, as well as heart-stopping romance, a lot of humour, and most importantly, a feisty and independent heroine. This novel makes me remember the classic Meave Binchy quote: ‘I don't have ugly ducklings turning into swans in my stories. I have ugly ducklings turning into confident ducks.’ And it even has pirates. Now what are you waiting for?!
