Confessions of a NEW Rules Girl: Post 3
Posted by A NEW Rules Girl in Blog, Guest Posts, Non-Fiction
To celebrate publication of The New Rules, the dating bible for the digital generation from the multi-million-copy-selling authors of The Rules, and give you an impartial glimpse into living life by the Rules in the book we challenged a group of anonymous women to live by The New Rules and document their results.
Our third anonymous New Rules Girl post comes hot on the heels of the authors' appearance on ITV's Lorraine this morning.
Marital status:
Single and looking!
Which of The New Rules did you follow and why?
- Rule #3: Don’t talk to or text a guy first
- Rule # 6: Wait at least four hours to answer a guy’s first text and a minimum of 30 minutes thereafter
How long did you follow The New Rules?
As soon as I’d read them . . . and I haven’t stopped . . .
What were the benefits of following The New Rules?
Well, I'm still single!
But actually not living and dying by concocting reasons to text has been something of a relief – and that’s not something I would have realised had I not read and cogitated over the chapters about texting. Plus the grid with guidelines – and I do think The New Rules should be guidelines rather than the law – is a bit of an eye-opener.
Reading The New Rules has given me confidence because I reckon I now have different expectations when it comes to texting and hearing back from a guy. And, for that matter, emailing too. In the age of easy and constant communication, The New Rules reminded me that taking time to breathe, reflect and compose myself before hitting ‘Reply’ can only be beneficial. And it’s bound to work – after all, what’s more attractive than a confident and relaxed person?!
What was the most surprising thing you learned from reading and following The New Rules?
This change in my texting and email behaviour has actually been really easy to adopt and carry forward despite my long-time, hard-wired excuse of employing good manners. I enjoy chatting to people I like – and of course there’s a huge buzz when a message from a potential new suitor flashes up on my phone – but The New Rules has taught me to calm down before responding, and that in turn means I won’t send anything hasty and regrettable.
Will you stick to The New Rules?
You bet!
The New Rules is available in paperback and as an ebook from all good booksellers now. Find out more and read an extract here or join the conversation online using #TheNEWRules.
